Black Widow is the long-awaited solo movie starring Scarlett Johansson & Florence Pugh. It has finally been released in theatres and on Disney Plus through Premier Access in America. This superhero film marks the first Marvel movie to arrive in theatres since Spider-Man Far From Home, July 2019. The film’s original release was scheduled for May 2020, but the pandemic forced it to be delayed.
The early reactions to Marvel’s standalone film are flooding in. If international reviews and fan tweets can be believed, it seems to have struck the right chord. Angie Han wrote that Black Widow was “blessed in both muscular action as well as endearing warmth” in her Mashable review. Dana Stevens from Slate was impressed by the sibling chemistry between Johannsson, Pugh. Black Widow may not be Natasha Romanoff’s first solo Marvel film, but it is more of an ensemble piece, Matt Singer wrote in his ScreenCrush review.
Take a look at some reactions from Marvel fans.
Tom Holland responds to #BlackWidow. “I have waited ages for this movie and it was well worth the wait. This movie is amazing! This film is amazing!
“Black Widow” follows Natasha Romanoff (aka Black Widow), as she is pursued and beaten by a force that wants to take her down. She must confront her past as an Avenger spy and the “broken relationships she left behind” that she had with her sister Yelena. Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson, as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff. Florence Pugh plays Yelena Belova (a sister-figure for Natasha). Rachel Weisz plays the role of Melina, while David Harbour portrays The Red Guardian/Alexei. They are both parents to Natasha & Yelena.
This film is part of the Phase Four release slate for Marvel Cinematic Universe, which also includes Shang-Chi titles and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
